15below fundraising for Brighton Housing Trust nears £5,000 after 24-hour Gameathon

As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of 15below, 2019 is set to be our most successful year of fundraising to date, following the success of our traditional 24-hour Gameathon last month.

More than 20 gamers tackled everything from retro consoles to arcade machines and board games from 6pm on Friday 18th October to the same time the following day; raising over £3,000 for our charity partner, Brighton Housing Trust (BHT).

It means we’ve already raised almost £5,000 since our Brighton team chose to support BHT at the start of the year.

This was our fourth Gameathon, following previous events held in support of Macmillan Cancer Support in 2016 and Mind in 2017 and 2018. We’re thrilled that the four Gameathons have been so successful and have raised a combined total of over £10,000 for three fantastic causes!

James Hawkins and Richard Lawrence, developers at 15below, organised the 2019 Gameathon with the assistance of David Cumming, Scott Daniels, Marcus Dibb and Alan Faller.

Alan says: “All of our charity partners – past and present – have great personal resonance with members of the 15below team, meaning we were highly motivated to raise as much as possible to support them.

“Every year that we have held the Gameathon it has been bigger and better than the last, and over 20 people got involved this year with most taking part for the full 24 hours.

“It is difficult to appreciate how hard it is to play computer and board games for that amount of time, especially for those who started the Gameathon after a full day at work. We are so proud of the people who took part and helped break through our team target of £3,000 and very grateful to everyone who donated to the team to make this possible.”

The Gameathon is the latest in a busy calendar of fundraising events carried out by our Brighton team. So far in 2019, these have included a summer party, bake sale, wellbeing breakfast and the Living Coast bike ride.

Lauren Ellis, Fundraising Manager at BHT, adds: “We are absolutely thrilled to be supported by 15below and can’t thank the staff enough for the incredible fundraising that has taken place over the last few months.

“15below’s fundraising will go towards our First Base centre in Brighton, providing people who are street homeless with food, showers, clean and dry clothes along with vital support services to help them find a place they can call home. Thank you so much from everyone at BHT!”
