We are looking for a Development Team Lead to join our incredible team. Established in 2000, we have since grown to become one of the travel industry’s major suppliers of passenger messaging solutions. More than 50 airlines, rail and travel management companies use our communications platform - so while you may not have heard of 15below directly, you've more than likely received a boarding pass, eTicket or flight-change notification that was sent via our platform.

The role

We truly believe in technical and professional excellence; our Development Team Leads (DTLs) are responsible for a team of Developers as well as the technical quality and delivery of projects, in line with customer needs and our technical strategy.

As a Development Team Lead, you are responsible for a team of developers and the technical quality and delivery of projects in line with customer needs and our technical strategy. 

The role includes:

  • Leading and line managing a team of developers, ensuring that levels of engagement remain high and the team is empowered to deliver brilliant work. To include performing 1-2-1s, identifying training needs and managing professional progression.
  • Working closely with the other Development Team Leads to drive performance and engagement throughout the development teams, coordinate training needs, and facilitate career-pathing and progression.
  • Liaising with the Development Manager to highlight knowledge development areas for the Development Team to assist with project allocation and resourcing.
  • Participating in the development of the technical strategy in collaboration with key colleagues.
  • Ensuring that your team understands, feeds into and is aligned with the technical strategy.
  • Providing technical and process guidance to ensure that sound application design and quality practices are followed.
  • Direct liaison with customers to provide technical consultation and guidance, working alongside Business Development Managers, Business Analysts and Account Managers during workshops and other customer meetings.
  • Assisting and supporting BAs to produce solution designs for customer projects, as required.
  • Involvement and input in solution and architectural design, working closely with the Architect team.
  • Providing sound decision-making for software development, ensuring that the constraints and needs of the business are considered alongside the overall technical strategy.
  • Actively share your knowledge with the wider 15below Developer community.
  • Customer-specific project development and Core 15below platform product development including:
    • Contributing to estimates and actively participate in the agile planning activities.
    • Configuration and deployment management for project releases.
    • Designing and developing sustainable products in line with best practice, relevant standards and technological developments.
    • Ensuring developed solutions deliver true business value meeting customer requirements by working closely with the Project Manager.
    • Escalating project issues appropriately and communicate project changes proactively to the Project Manager.
    • Driving quality and set realistic expectations within your projects o Unit testing and code reviews.
    • Using problem-solving skills to overcome technical issues.
    • Assisting QA with software application testing as needed.
    • Coaching developers in solution design, development and maintaining coding standards.
  • Fostering collaboration and communication amongst team members.
  • Participating in cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
  • Staying abreast with technical development and trends.
  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Contributing to core product development.
  • Adhering to 15below policies and company values. 


Skills we want

  • A minimum of 10 years software development experience.
  • Excellent software development skills (C#, VB, SQL, XSLT, Web Api, ASP.NET).
  • Experience in the design and implementation of services, using service-oriented technologies.
  • Experience using Visual Studio and Git.
  • Excellent Object Oriented design skills (Design Patterns, SOLID).
  • Experience inputting in to architectural design and solutions.
  • Experience in managing, leading and coaching team members.
  • Experience in providing technical guidance to other Developers and the wider team.
  • Experience in TDD (Test Driven Development).
  • An understanding of business operations and commercial decisions.
  • Experience of continuous integration, continuous deployment and automated integration testing.
  • Ability to operate independently within defined methodologies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • BSc Computer Science or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working closely with external stakeholders.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Technical writing skills.


Skills to impress

  • Experience with MS SQL Server.
  • Experience with messaging systems (RabbitMQ).
  • Experience and proficiency with cross-browser, cross-platform development.
  • Airline Industry, Reservation Systems, Travel Industry.
  • Experience with Change Management processes.
  • Experience in writing high-performance software (Threading, Async IO).
  • International experience and Mobility.
